Heart Attack Grill and the Heart of Friendship

There used to be a wild little burger joint here in Arizona called Heart Attack Grill, and my friends and I just had to try it. The moment you sat down, the waitress, dressed like a nurse, would slip a hospital gown over you like you were checking into a ward. Their burgers were cooked in pure lard, they handed you a glass bottle of Coke, and they even took your blood pressure before and after you ate. And of course, the legendary rule, if you weighed 300 pounds or more, you ate for free. It was ridiculous, hilarious, and unforgettable, one of those experiences you try just to say you did.

But looking back, it wasn’t really about the restaurant at all.

It was about us, the friendships we built here in Arizona. We were a group of artists working at a major animation studio in Phoenix, pouring our creativity into every project. And when the studio shut down, everything changed. Suddenly we were all trying to figure out our next steps, our next jobs, our next version of life. But through all the uncertainty, we stuck together. We shared rides, shared meals, shared worries, shared dreams. We helped each other survive the transition.

Eventually, life pulled us in different directions. Opportunities came, responsibilities grew, and we each followed our own path. Some found stability, some found new passions, some found success after years of grinding. And I’m genuinely proud of every one of them.

That day at Heart Attack Grill wasn’t just a funny memory, it was a snapshot of a time when we were all together, all fighting for our futures, all holding onto each other in the middle of life’s unpredictability.

Friendship is like that.
You celebrate together, struggle together, and treasure the moments while you have them. Because life moves fast. You never really know when a chapter ends or when a new one begins.

But the memories, those stay with you.
